Chair of Local Academy Committee's Message

Fr-Robert-WrightOn behalf of the Saint John Fisher governing body it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our school’s website.

Saint John Fisher governing body is made up of people from across our school and church community and is chaired by myself, Father Robert Wright. It is our role to support the Principal and staff in ensuring that every single pupil feels happy and secure at Saint John Fisher Catholic Primary School and receives the best education possible.

We strive to achieve this by working together as a team to ensure that the school provides all of our children with the optimum learning environment  for academic success, whilst promoting the growth of confidence and positive self-esteem in a setting of mutual respect, care and love. Positive behaviour is rewarded and successes are regularly celebrated.

The full governing body meets once a term and there are various sub committees that also meet regularly to focus on all aspects of the school’s plans for improvement. There are also numerous more informal ways in which we work with the Headteacher, staff and children.

A key aspect of the governing body’s role is to ensure that all of the resources available to the school are used effectively and that the whole team works together in striving to ensure that a culture of high standards of performance permeates everything we do so that all of our children, regardless of their ability, are encouraged to achieve the best they possibly can.

The world of education is constantly changing and our governing body positively challenges the Principal and Senior management team to ensure that Saint John Fisher has a clear vision for the future and that appropriate plans are in place. We also regularly monitor and challenge the school’s progress to its agreed plans. However our overarching principle is to ensure that the catholic ethos is embedded in all the school does.

As a governing body we are all very proud of our school. Our latest Ofsted report stated:

‘The school promotes a very strong sense of family and pupils feel respected and valued. Pupil behaviour at Saint John Fisher School is exemplary’.

So to sum up the role of Saint John Fisher governing body:-

‘To live, love and learn in our caring community’ is our mantra!

Fr. Robert Wright,  Chair of Governors
