Free School Meals

The Government is giving money to schools to help children from lower income families do their very best. This funding is called a ‘Pupil Premium.’

For every child entitled and registered to receive a Free School Meal, St John Fisher Catholic Primary School gets approximately £1300 this year for every child registered.

Even though your child is automatically entitled to receive a Free School Meal while they are in the infants please let Mrs O’Hara or Mrs Kelly know that you are entitled to register. If you do not let us know your child could lose out.

With this money we could purchase new resources to support your child’s attainment and achievement in reading, writing and maths. If you are registered for Free School Meals you could also be eligible for other benefits that the school or local authority may make available to pupils registered for Free School Meals e.g. help with costs of school trips, music tuition etc.

Children are entitled to Free School Meals if their parents, carers or guardians receive any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support from NASS under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ – the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.
  • Universal Credit

Packed Lunches

Alternatively, children may bring a packed lunch. This should be in a secure named container. A drink should be provided in a non breakable container. Packed lunches are eaten in the main hall. We encourage lots of fruit, vegetables and water.
