PE develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, games, gymnastics, swimming and water safety, athletics and outdoor adventure activities through residential trips to PlasDol-y-Moch and Alton Castle.
PE promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills, and it promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus, we enable the children to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives.
As part of developing pupil stamina and fitness, we are introducing a mile run which initially all pupils in KS2 are beginning to take part in 2-3 times each week. It is in addition to weekly PE lessons. Part of the government Sports premium grant is being used to pay for an all weather path to be laid down the length of the field, so that we are utilising the wonderful outside space we have around the school grounds. The mile run will incorporate the top playground, the path leading to the church, the new all weather path on the field and the lower KS1 playground. In time, we aim to have all pupils, KS1 and 2, running this mile on a regular basis.
