PSHE

At Saint John Fisher Primary School we aim to provide young people with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthily, safely, productively and responsibly. We encourage all our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community through school councils, fundraising events, supporting nominated charities and involvement in community activities. Our pupils are given opportunities in PSHE lessons and assemblies to develop confidence, self-motivation, and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities within society, so that they feel safe and can manage their lives today and in the future.

PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) and SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) are taught through lessons, assemblies and through other subjects, as well as through educational visits and visits from external agencies.

Scheme of Work

Our school uses the Jigsaw scheme of work to deliver lessons each week. The scheme is underpinned by mindfulness, which aims to encourage children to be aware of their thoughts, feelings and actions. Every lesson follows the Jigsaw Charter.

The Jigsaw Charter

  • We all take turns to speak.
  • We use kind and positive words.
  • We listen to each other.
  • We have the right to pass.
  • We only use names to give compliments or when being positive.
  • We respect each other’s privacy (confidentiality).

Whole School Approach

Each half term children cover the same theme in every year group, building on their knowledge each year. These themes are also celebrated in assemblies and weekly celebrations.

  1. Our themes are;
  2. Being Me in My World
  3. Celebrating Difference
  4. Dreams and Goals
  5. Healthy Me
  6. Relationships
  7. Changing Me

Differentiation

At St John Fisher, PSHE aims to support all of our children throughout their school journey so that they can fulfill their full potential. Our scheme of work meets the needs of all children through creative activities that allows everyone to achieve.
